Hello!

I’m Emmi Jormalainen, a visual artist and illustrator based in Helsinki, Finland. I have an MA in Graphic Design from Aalto University. During the last 10 years, I have worked with children’s books, experimental publishing, drawing and painting, as well as creating public art.

I work mainly with drawing, which I see as a form of visual storytelling. I often self-publish my works as experimental artist books using offset printing methods. I create so-called Silent books, which tell stories purely with images. These books are like miniature galleries. My books are equally for children and adults, young and old. Sometimes, the stories become a very loose series of images. Other times, they are like picture books or graphic novels.

Themes in my works are often linked to nature, living surroundings, ecosystems, and wildlife. I’m interested in architecture and living environments, and how we as humans share the spaces with animals, birds, and insects.

I do commissions for big and small clients, companies, charities organisations, and editorials. I hope my clients are equally devoted to protect the environment and make the world a better place.
